  • Belt Questions

So my Alternator Belt (serpentine?) is squealing and looks like I need to put a new one on.
I've never replaced one but doesn't sound hard.
I'm wondering what kind of belt I need to get.
I'm new to all of this so I may sound dumb :p
This is for my BP Festiva. Does the protege BP use a serpentine belt?
I see there are many different sizes and rib amounts. How do I know which to get?

    I don't have A/C or Power Steering.

    HELP!

Charlie, that belt was basically new when you picked up the car. Try tightening the belt first (at the alternator). If you really need to replace it, the numbers on the belt should still be legible.

I tightened it a bit and it went away for a couple days and came back worse and now it's more constant. I haven't had a chance to look at it in daylight to see if it's fraying or not. I suppose I shall take another look at it maybe it needs to be tightened a bit more.

Try to listen carefully to where the squeal is coming from. Might not be the belt, could be the Alternator its self.
