  • 93 GL ATX No Spark

This sounds like a similar problem that I've seen here in the site. First, a little background. 93, GL, ATX, ran fine, started up every time with no problems. I got into her the other day and the engine would only turn over, (battery GREAT, turns over fast), no start. I got it up into the garage today to troubleshoot the problem. Checked the engine fuse and others in the fuse box, no problems, (checked them with an ohm meter, not just looked at them). Also pulled off each fuseable link in the engine compartment and checked them with an ohm meter, all were fine. Pulled off the rotor cap, rotor turns, so the timing belt isn't the issue. Pulled #4 spark plug out and grounded it, turned over the engine, no spark, (even tried in a dark garage in case it was weak, nothing). Tried the same thing with the coil wire removed from the distributor cap. Mounted it with about an 1/8" gap to ground, turned over the engine, no spark. The Haines manual is pretty much worthless, refers to illistrations that arn't in the manual, wiring that doesn't match the car wiring, etc. This has been my experience with all Haines manuals.......WORTHLESS! Is there any was to test the ignitor, (little square device next to the coil). Any ideas or advice?

    Thanks in advance guys......

Dude, I just had the same thing happen to me yesterday. I drove it in the garage, did some cleaning. When I went to move it out crank.....No start! I did every thing you said you did. I wanted to check the resistance of the coil as in the manual. I removed all the wires(tower, positive, and negative sides) checked OK. The manual says all wiring connections should be clean and tight. Well they were tight but not clean. OK, so there is this little brass connector on one side of the coil with male prongs for two wires to push onto. Really corroded, so I remove it and carefully wire wheel it on the bench grinder, put it all back on and started right up!
