The wiper arms aren't pressing down on the blades hard enough and their shape isn't pressed to the windshield.
See if you can adjust the spring tension in the arms or replace them with Nissan Sentra wiper arms... In other threads, they're regarded as awesome replacements because they're stainless steel with a stronger spring inside to provide more tension.
For now, I'd switch to the cheaper, less stiff, regular blades.-Zack

^^ What he said. Tho, I don't think they are adjustable. I had a similar problem with the wipers on my 89 last winter. Ended up removing the arms, pulling the springs, and taking them to a parts store, and finding a set that was a little bit shorter, but just as strong as the ones that were on the car. Problem solved. I bet you also notice that your wipers move quite a bit when a big truck goes past, and the air blast hits your car, yes?

I think he's talking about where the arm mounts to the car. If there's any denting/rusting issues, the wipers will not line up properly. I think...

they make helper springs that really do help A LOT when it comes to keeping the wiper on the windshield.
The cowl mount I think that is being mentioned is known problem for Festys.....where the shaft mounts in the car....they become loose and wobbly and eventually can break away completely leaving the arm to just flop around. I believe it happens mostly to the drivers side for some reason and is the reason that some on here have reverted to a single wiper arm repositioned with a longer blade. Is easier then actually trying to fix it."FLTG4LIFE" @FINALLEVEL , "PBH"

Nissan Sentra Arms
Can anyone tell me what years of Nissan Sentra Wiper Arms will fit the Festiva? Will a 2010 Nissan Sentra arm fit? I have the same frustrating problem with the spring tension and wanted to change them out but didn't know what would model of cars would interchange.

Definitely go for the sentra wiper arms. I heard the helper springs can shorten the life of your wiper motor. My mechanic installed those on my weak-spring wiper arms and it also brings too much of tension to the arms. 2cents.J-S
