  • Have to be Arnold to roll up my windows!

I know there was a post about this b4, but I spent an hour looking and still have not found it. I remember being told to clean and spray wd-40 on the side "track" the window fallows. That didn't really work. Does any 1 have a solution to the windows being hard to roll up in the festiva's. I know the aspire doesn't have this problem... Any ideas. I need help quick my window crank just broke because the window is so hard to roll up...

Short of replacing the window regulator, you can remove the regulator from the door and lube the cable contact areas with white lithium spray grease. You also need to lube the main guide track and check for missing/broken plastic pieces that might be binding the mechanism up. You have to remove the glass out of the door to do this, so you can also inspect the window guides for damage, and a little white lithium on the side channels will not hurt either.

would the regulator getting gummed up be the cause of the regulator cable breaking? This happened on one of my festiva's, it used to be a paper route car.

If you pull yours out and take a look at how this thing is made, plastic guides on metal cables and metal rails, you will see why it is replaced and not repaired. The plastic will become brittle with age and as it wears and becomes sloppy, it can then cock in the channel and cause binding.

Try silicone spray instead of WD-40, and shoot some down the glass channel when the glass is all the way down too.

I took the dr. side out, cleaned with solvent, re-greased the gear, cable and cable contact points, and re-installed it. Took 1 hr of time to complete. Much smoother now.
