  • Oil pan gasket.........who has done?

Anyone changed the engine oil pan gasket on their festy yet?
Any trouble spots? or tips to share before I begin the replacement? Mine puks oil.......

I just did the auto trans filter kit yesterday. The haynes manual makes it look easy! But, I can tell you there are 4 pan cover bolts that are a royal PITA to try to re and re. They took one half of the time needed to complete the whole job.
Sure wished the trans pan had drain plug in it, so the oil could just be changed every other time, without fricking with the pan.....:banghead:

Anyway, that task is done for a while.

Done a few oil pan gaskets, nothing special.
Make sure everything is clean, don't get in a hurry and it should be a cake walk.

The auto trans has a plug in the bottom of the case. Can't remember what size of bolt it is.

I thought of it, but with the work left to do on the festy, I thought it best to move on to the stuff at hand.
I was wondering if there is a suction tool available that would fit through the oil filler tube, so one could just suck the oil out? I thought of a large syringe and some vacuum hose.
Might be there a while with that method though, lol.

Yep, got that one. Not much fluid comes from the trans case........ most is still in the pan, and that means dropping the pan to get it out and replace the trans filter. Even then, the old oil in the torque converter is still there, so it`s still not a complete oil change out.

Thanks. It wasn`t bad at all.
The exhaust pipe to manifold bolts were not seized, as I thought they might have been, so removing the exhaust and then the inspection plate, and finally the pan was easy. WAY easier than the trans pan, lol.

Just waiting to get the new gasket now.

You should get almost 2.5-3 quarts out of the plug. That's what I got out of mine. If you want to do a full change pull the plug and drain what you can. Put the plug back in and refill. Pull on of the trans lines to the radiator, the one going to the rear of the trans is best. Put in a container you can measure. Start the engine and it should pump out 2-3 quarts. Shut it off as soon as it starts spitting. Refill with the same amount that it pump out. Repeat till you've got clean fluid. I've done 6 cars like this.. alot cheaper that then $100 flush.
