  • Squealing starter

Okay so it's not actually squealing it sounds more like you have a tom cat by his nuts. It's on the Aspire but probably no different than the Festiva. It doesn't seem to grind even though it was about to fall off and it's missing the lower bolt when I got it. I've tightened the top two bolts for now need to get it up on the ramps and replace the other. I don't recall on any of the Festiva/Aspire's I'm worked on the starters had shims. From what I've read sometimes shims will help.. cleaning and lube hardly ever. Any ideas? I swear I get a new problem with each one I buy.

    Sure it's the starter.

I had a same kind of problem, but it was the alternator. So i tightened the belt and it stopped.

    Hope i could of helped.

The bearings/bushings in the starter may be worn so bad that the armature is rubbing on the field plates inside the starter. Shameless plug: I have 3 new/rebuilt starters for the manual transmission for sale in the For Sale section for $45.00 each including shipping to the lower 48 states.
        You gonna race that thing?

The alt belt does squeal but only under a load. Once I get the oil leaks fixed should take care of that.
