  • Tranny chunks

Drained the transmission today. Little chunks of metal came out and hit the bottom of the pan.

It still drives fine, and it shifts through all of the gears. How long do you think it'll be before it grenades?

Just give it some time , hard telling what pieces they are with out pics , but it could be a bearing race ,syncro pieces , better be looking for a tranny to have a back up or pull it down before it self disintegrates.

Well it's slipping out of 4th, so I'm guessing it's probably either part of the shift fork or syncro assembly.

I guess I was wrong. Went to test drive the car after the clutch had been replaced, and now it won't go into second, fourth, or reverse. Well it'll go in if I shove it hard enough, but then it sticks and I have to muscle it back into neutral. The old pilot bearing was toast, so that's probably why the problem wasn't as apparent at first. The clutch wasn't gripping very hard, so the tranny was able to slide in and out of gear without too many issues. Bright side is I've got a new tranny ready to be installed from the junkyard tomorrow morning. The downside is there goes about $700 of my hard earned savings.
