I'm one of the new guys, but ive had my little dented buddy for a couple of years. found this site looking for a way to put bigger wheels and tires on and did not realize there was other people out there who enjoy spending time in there garage with something they can put in the bed of there truck that isnt a motorcycle or female. My question is the about the timing marks, could not figure them out when i got the car so i just cranked the distributor up till it ran like a scared rabbit and now it is burning the electrodes completly off of my spark plugs. So here it is. I got 2 marks on my crank pully, the Hanes manual says one is to be white and one yellow. Mine are rust. Then i have the regular timing marks towards the front and a small arrow sticking out at the rear of the engine. I am also not sure if there an issue with advance while setting the timing because everything in the book does not look or word like my year. Im in the process of waiting for all my tune up parts to come in. Any help will be greatly appriciated and i will probably need some more as i keep reading what you guys are doing and think maybe i should forget about MPG and think HP.

DUDE!!! another PA guy!
ok the pointer is for engine assembly, so ignore that one. you want what would be the white marker set at 0* BTDC for stock timing. i prefer +6* and 89oct fuel to get the best milage/power.Trees aren't kind to me...

well i know that if you place the dizzy near center of it's throw, the closest marker to 0* will be the one you want when looking at it with a light. i just can't remember which is which at the moment.Trees aren't kind to me...
