Guys can you please share how you get so much driveabilit coz you guys can run your cars at 35-40 mog according to other topics in this thread. We in the PI will be happy if we can run at 14liters per kilometer. According to my convertion I can only get my car to 29 miles per us galon. Any secrets? Am not sure bout my conversion but it seems that you have a more fuel efficient cars out there. Im only driving an 1100cc Kia pride car. Is my fuel mileage sucks?

The more Ethanol content ,the lower the mileage , cars that run on higher Ethanol,Alcohol content will get less MPG, but it burns cleaner , or at least that is how I have always understood it------------------------------------------------

Dragon,
If you do a lot of city driving that's good. I don't know how the guys get 45 MPG. I get about 16 km/l, 1/2 city, 1/2 hwy. Of course in Canada we figure it out backwards so I do 6.2 l per 100 km
ps for Andrew: I don't think they have winter fuel in the PhilippinesI will NOT drive a minivan

oh right on the winter fuel there, but still, 32 isn't too bad, especially if they're running more ethanol or something.
i got 45mpg once in the summer just by keeping the tank topped up each day and driving only on the freeway. i'm not really sure how that happened myself, but it worked

But I can only manage a 9.5 to 10 km/l in city driving, isnt it too much? How can I improve my mileage?

Well, when I found my mpg I was only doing 32 as well. Considering it's -20C average, that's pretty good I'd say. I'd say if your in the winter your doing fine. It should get better in the summer'93 L Green

I just drove my 194k mi. '88 5spd. 1186 miles over the weekend. Interstate 65 -75 MPH across OH and through the mountains to central PA. I averaged 42.3 MPG overall.
Only thing I do is try to keep every thing under the hood the way it was from day one if possible. Keep it tuned up. Keep the wheels aligned. Tire pressure @35# fr. 32# rear. Change oil and air and oil filters often especially if you do alot of stop and go driving. About every forth oil change I run HD 30 oil. This is straight 30wt HD= High Detergent. Helps keep the inside of the motor sludge free. I try to do this in the winter months or when its not so hot. All this stuff is cheap insurance, especially if you can do some yourself.
Gasoline or petrol formulation has alot to do with MPG/KPL.'89L 110k mi. BP/G swapped

23 mpg very hard highway driving
I just drove my '88 LX 5-speed 400 miles extremely hard across the mountains of the State of WA and back, averaging 60-70 mph, at elevations from sea level to 3500' (numerous times up and down) with strong winds. I was floored much of the time in 4th, even 3rd gear, up to 4700rpm. I got only 23 mpg. My engine has 37,000 since overhaul, brand new plugs gapped at 0.44", properly inflated 14" wide tires, my usual 100-pound toolbox, and a heavy interior load coming back.
With much gentler driving, the '88 LX gets about 28 city/35-38 flat highway at 55-60mph.
My less comfortable '93 5-speed on 13" skinny tires with 100,000 since new gets up to 44mpg highway on the flat at 60mph unloaded, and not much worse around town, even with jackrabbit starts. I'm thinking the main difference has to be the fuel injection, but maybe also the tires, and lighter weight.88L black, dailydriver

Well Im back here at the forum after I changed the oil, oil filters, air filter, spark plugs and did tappet adjustments and with an idle of 500rpm. My cars fuel consumption went high from the lats time. Before the fixes Im getting at least 12km/L on the highways & 9to10 kms in the city, but now I get only 8km/L. What should I look into? The mechanic adjusted the Air & fuel mixture on the back of the carb. Could someone here help me in adjusting the right mixture? Thanks

Do you have the stock 12" tires? That may have a little play into your fuel economy along with some hills which we don't have in OZ
I have a '92GL (EFI)and usually avg 35-38 in town and I did get on avg 44.3 MPG @65 MPH going to San Antonio and Back at 1300 mi. round trip (I did get a little help from drafting behind a few 18-wheelers---not recommended as they will suck you into the trailer!) My friend has an '88 (carb) and he gets on avg 28-30 in town. Maybe it's a carbuerated engine thing? :?Rob "BossMan" Petty

I get pretty close to 34/43 in my 5 speed 97 Aspire. Carburetion is not as efficient as FI, even a feedback carb, and a 5 speed will do better than an auto, gearing and tire size all play a role too.97 Ford Aspire 2dr 5 sp
