Need more info does it still go into all the gears?1992 white L, Bp, American racing 13's, stock trans.
1991 White L, BP/F5MR, protege header, full aspire swap with gr2's, seats, and sway bar, 15" konig's, short throw, escort console.

5 speed or automatic? I'd assume 5 speed since it was put in neutral at the red light, but the statement "put it in drive" sounds like an auto. If 5 speed and the stick will still go into all the gears it could be the clutch. Like 91mcnasty said though, we need more info for a proper diagnosis. No festiva for me ATM...

Perucho's questions are good, I will add three more of my own to his list:
First, have you checked the fluid? If one of the transmission cooler pipes burst and the fluid is all gone, it won't go anywhere. If you have access to go back to where it stopped moving, look on the ground for a puddle of reddish fluid, or look below the front bumper and see if there is any fluid dripping.
Second, why did it need to be put in neutral at the stoplight? Did it already have a history of dying if left in drive?
Third, when it moves six inches and stops, does the engine keep revving up without the car moving, or does the engine die like perucho said?
The answers to these three will tell us a lot more about whats going on in there. Thanks!Last edited by htchbck; 04-22-2011, 01:40 PM.No festiva for me ATM...

it has fluid, I put it in neutral at the light because it was runing like it was going to run out of gas all the way to work. so i just put it in neutral. and yes the engine runs great even after it moves, it moves about 6 inches and then feels like it is slipping out of gear

After it moves, can you rev it up again and get it to move again? Or does it have to be shut off and cranked back up? Sounds like a problem with the trans not the engine to me, I've seen them do that when the lines going to the radiator are leaking they will suck air in and create a lot of slipping. If you can check to see if there are any leaks that will help narrow it down. And just if its leaking doesn't mean the fluid will all be out, could just be a little low but the air being introduced into the system may be causing the problem. No festiva for me ATM...
