  • clutch or transmisson?

So I picked a guy up on the side of the interstate today and had accelerate really quickly and after getting off the car was throwing high RPM but not actually accelerating after a point. I stopped and let it cool down pretty long and drove home and seemed to have no issues but I didnt really get on it in fear. Wondering what may have happened...

It does sound as though you clutch was slipping. Easy way to test it is get moving at about 2500rpms in 5th gear and floor it. It the engine bucks and snorts, your clutch is holding, if the rpms climes rapidly its time to replace it.
Im not driving a Festiva because I'm poor. I drive a Festiva because i want to!

not totally true....I had one that only slipped in 3rd. If I tried what you suggested or was already getting on it and shifted...it would slip every time. If I took it easy...no problem. But it would never slip in 4th or 5th....no matter what I tried to do to make it slip.

You overheated the clutch disc due to extra weight (in the car) and the rush to get moving. You did the right thing by stopping and letting it cool down. It takes about 1/2 hour. You may have this problem on really steep hills. A higher performance clutch would less likely to do it.
