i changed the speedo assembly to one that also has a tach. every thing works but the fuel and temp gauges only read half of what they should.at half a tank the fuel gauge reads empty, when tank is full it reads half a tank.the temp gauge is doing the same.i was wondering if the readings could be adjusted somehow. thanks for any suggestions.

First try unplugging and resetting the instrument cluster. The connections seem extremely sensitive. My temp gauge only works when it's above maybe 40 outside, and with another one the tach only occasionally worked till I unplug/replugged it.

(Crimony! The damn spell check cow redlined gauge. Gauge! It suggested gouge!! I can understand it doesn't know tach, but gauge?!! What a dumb cow!)

thanks for the suggestion but i have tried that three times and the gauges still do the same each time.ive just about got use to them now. they work but are off by one half. the fuel gauge reads half a tank when full,at half a tank it reads empty, at empty it reads at the bottom of the gas pump emblem. the temp reads the same as the fuel about one half as normal. i can live with it,just curious as to why they are doing this.this is the fourth festiva i have owned, bought my first one new in 1988 for $4,995. they are fun to work on and parts are cheap.just bought a 1991 two days ago for $100.00.bought it for the fuel injection and air conditioning that still works the rest of car is trash.will keep what i can for spare parts.1960 willys pickup

Ok, now to answer your question.. pull the cluster out. Push on the 4 tabs that hold the clear plastic lense, releasing it. Reinstall without screws or speedo cable, letting the lense hang down by it's light wires on the right side of the column. Go to the station and fill the tank to the brim.. manually push the needle to read full..(DO NOT PULL THE NEEDLE) as for the temp, I can always tell when the temp gets to the middle of the gauge.. the fan comes on.. so I heat the engine up and as soon as the fan comes on, I manually move the needle to center. Snap the lense back on screw down and reinstall the speedo cable...
