Thanks! It doesn't appear that Autozone or Advance Auto carry this part. Is it a Motorcraft only part? I found it on ebay for $20, which is much better than the almost $90 on fords website.
I don't think it's for the cooling fan. The switch for it is one of those in the thermostat housing area. The coolant temp sensor is on the bottom of the intake. I personally have never been able to figure out what it does. My '89 has one as well.
Is the sensor at the bottom of the radiator on an 89 festy the coolant sensor? The pictures on the box part stores doesn't look like what I have.

You are close. Its actually the RADIATOR temp switch.
