Mystery hose - 88 carbed

So i picked up an 88 L and upon inspection there is a hose that doesn't have a place to go. The previous owner had replaced some vacuum lines and likely didn't get it everything back to where they should have gone...
i removed the air cleaner assembly, revealing the hose in RED:

where does this go? as I am new to the carb world, what component is at the bottom part of the red line? thanks in advance!

not sure but I've got the same 88 L. I'll look tomorrow. But I like the pic. Some of mine are hooked up different

Do the Weber upgrade and you will only need one hose from the carb to the vacuum advance. You can throw away all the other hoses. I get dizzy just looking at your picture for more than a few seconds.

Off topic but if you use an Escort carb or a Weber what happens with the computer?
That hose looks too long and goes to a barb on the upper rear of the carb on the 88 i have here.

Only feedback carbs need a computer.
You can get rid of the computer too.
Carbs were around long before computers ever existed.
You don't need a computer to make a car go.

thanks for the computer info. How about the stock fuel pump feeding to the carb, any pressure issues or hose routing issues?

No issues. The stock pump will feed the Weber/Escort carby.

This is the goal.

Hope this works, I'm not good at this newfangled picture stuff. This should be a picture of my old '89 carb from the rear. The loose hose goes to the air filter.

Whoever designed the carb system on the 88 festy should have their brain preserved in a glass jar for further study at harvard after they pass.

You could even throw away the EGR and pulse air and plug up the holes. There will be even more room. Take a look at this 445 cubic inch Buick Wildcat engine. It is carbed. The only hoses are the water hoses, power steering hoses and power brake vacuum hose.
You can't even see the vacuum advance hose. This baby will put down a patch of rubber a mile long. Once upon a time, everything was so simple (and gas was cheap).
They have successfuly brainwashed an entire generation into thinking that computer control is an absolute necessity in order for a car to function properly. You need to attend some cruises in your state.
I have a slightly biased opinion when it comes to ECUs.

Well, I think ECU's have their place if you want efficiency and lower emissions. I believe that we humans are really screwing up the atmosphere and should at least keep it to a minimum. I'm not really a tree hugger, but I sure don't want to leave a poop hole for my grandchildren. That being said I did put a Weber on my car, so I guess I'm a hypocrite!
