  • New Ignition Coil Recommendations

Howdy - Just replaced the battery in the '88LX. Headlights, Instrument light, and such are still pretty dim (even replaced stock headlight bulbs with Sylvania "Ultra" Halogens). Still has the stock coil. Would a upgraded coil help?
Guy at the local station recommended an "Accel Supercoil". Would this fit no problem? Is it overkill? Just running stock. Thanks

new coil is not going to make those items brighter. You are probably having alternator issues. Should have it checked at Autozone for output.

          OK, I'll bite!
What makes you think the coil has anything to do with the operation of the headlights and IP lights?
Check the voltage at the headlights and see what you got when it's running.
Let us know, in this thread, and maybe we can get you some info that will help.

You can't, I can but wont, because you probably are not the only one who thinks this.

Besides you still haven't got your dim headlights and IP lights fixed.

Do you have a means of checking the voltage at the headlights?

Better yet, many McParts places will check your battery and charging system free. Try that and see what they say.

OK, sometimes we are, but not this time, you need to get this fixed before it get worse or causes other damage.

Thanks - No offense taken. I'll take it over to O'Reilly and see what they say.
                  I appreciate the help.

I would definitely check your grounds as mentioned early. Clean where they attach to the engine and body. It doesn't take much resistance to give you the problems you have. A cable can look fine but have some corrosion on the inside.
