I have an '89 Festiva stick. The shift lever has always been fairly loose, but has become increasingly difficult to get into gear, must force it. Is this a clutch issue, or a shift lever issue?

I would say a Shifter bushing issue, which has been well documents in a few threads in the past few months.
A shot of PB Blaster on the bushings might free them up temporally, but they will likely just need replaced.
That said, how many miles on your ride and did it sit for a long period of time. Clutch could still use an adjustment.

Its got 198k. I'm in SW Florida. I was told it may be the bushings, I will check out the other threads. ThanksComment
