  • Where EXACTLY is the fuel filter? (pics appreciated)

I'm swapping it tomorrow. Looked for it in the dark tonight with a flashlight, no luck. Where is it exactly?

Black cylinder with input and output tubing, about 4-5 inches long, 2-3 inches wide.
Should be held in a bracket under the Master Cylinder.
With where you're located, you will likely break the bolt holding it in the bracket so make provisions ahead of time to secure the new one, if it does break.
Should have sprayed liberally with PB Blaster 24 hrs ahead of time for the best chance to avoid breakage.
Might get an Aspire fuel filter bracket, of course you'd need some new fuel line but it would relocate the filter in a much better position.

Master cylinder being under the hood, correct?

Also, if I break the bracket, I'll strap it back on with pipe clamps.

Yes, under the hood, drivers-side, has a semi translucent reservoir that holds brake fluid has a black lid. Most likely your fluid is black and will need replacing.

Please tell me you own a Haynes or Ford manual for your car.
If not it's a real bargain in helping you learn your way around an engine compartment. It has many pics and illustrations to help ID unknown components.

Zip ties or band clamps will suffice if you break the bolt.
BTW, the bolt is on the backside of the fuel filter a real PITA to get too, so plan on taking some time with it.

here you go, look under the brake master resevoir. You can see the bracket that Pu241 was talking about with the filter in it.

Just changed the filters on my 2 Festys. I did NOT put the new ones in the original location.

I have an explorer filter, and I suppose I'll relocate it to make it fit.

Mine is zip-tied to the brake master cylinder, underneath it. It is hanging by the horizontal top tube that feeds into the fuel rail. Replacing it is as simple as removing the two hoses that go into it.

A million is a lot of fuel filters.

I just meant that I do not have the filter attached to any bracket or clamps; it's just hanging free.
