  • Popping and sputtering when I give it gas (EFI).....

Drove the Festy to the PAP yard to look for an axle.

Thought I might have to leave it there. It'll start sorta okay, but acts like a couple plugs are bad. when it finally evens out, the slightest touch to the gas kills it. Really had to feather the throttle and clutch to get back to work.

The underhood has that car lot shiney spray stuff all over it, wondering if the MAF wire got some debris on it? Waiting for it to cool off, I'll check the plugs and air filter.

I guess it could be bad gas or a clogged fuel filter.

It was NOT an encouraging trip.

Right now I'm betting a jumped tooth on the timing belt. 142k, I don't know if its ever been replaced. Do these bend valves when the belt breaks?

skipping one tooth won't cause your tip in stall issue. inspect your air tube from the VAF to the throttle body and look for cracks/splits.

Well, it happened all of a sudden. I'll inspect the air tube, but I'm guessing that's not it.

New belt comes in tomorrow, I've got it torn down to the lower pulley and lower cover I have yet to remove. At TDC if the mark on the lower pulley, distributor mark and cam pulley are correct. The cam is one tooth to the rear of where it should be.

One tooth won't do it. Check fuel supply.

I'm going to put a fuel filter on it as well.

It still runs, just when you give it gas it sputters. I drove it to McDonald's, ran fine, then started it up to leave, back up, as soon as I put it in 1st, it started acting up.
