My new parts came in...

Unfortunately, it's not the ball joint...yet.

I ordered a new speedometer cable a week ago and it finally arrived. The question is, it arrived with a black washer that is paired with the end that connects to the transmission end. I'm missing the white speedometer gear...is this part necessary? Can I salvage my current speedo gear with the new cable? Is the black foam washer needed?

You will need to use your old gear yes. As far as the washer, it is actually a seal to keep the fluid from coming out around the cable, so yes it is needed as well.
