  • Brake pad install

I searched but couldn't find my answer...

Finished installing front pads on '88 festiva, noticed that the slider pins had small holes in them (had to re-drill 2 of them)

What goes there to "lock" the pin? Cotter pin, retaining pin? A piece a fence wire was there originally; I don't think that is very safe!

Also the "Anti-squeak" caps fell on the ground, where are they supposed to go?

    Thanks

This (called the brake pad pin retainer) holds the pins in place--the crooked piece on the bottom of the pic:

The W-shaped piece is the anti-rattle spring.

The anti-squeak caps (also shown above) fit on the ends of the brake pads, one per pad. I think there is only one side they can go on, so it should be easy to figure out. I always smear a little high-temp bearing grease on the back of the pads too, to inhibit squealing.

If you don't have a Haynes manual, get one. Also try to find a Festiva factory manual.
