  • Rear Wheel Spacers??

I just installed my 4 13" 323 wheels & 175/70-R13 tires on 'Tiva. The rear tires rub the lower spring perches'. Do I need spacers & what size, type, etc.? I did not read in any of the threads about needin' spacers on 13' rims. Whats up with mine? Any help please!!:blackeye:

Your tires are taller and wider than the Festys were designed for. Switch to Aspire rear struts and the problem is solved. You can keep the Festy springs.

Could be. I don't think thats the problem. The tires are rubbing the LOWER perchese's, I think I need WHeel spacers? Didn't find any post about that happening with 13" wheels. Would 1/4" spacers work, or do I need 1/2" ?

Yeah Tom , would Monroe Aspire Struts work? I didn't want to try to swap struts, read your post & the problems I could have doing that. Would 1/4" spacers work?

you should be running 175/60/13s, not 175/70s that will solve your rubbing issues.

Thank you Festy, I do realize that. But the 175/70's came on the wheels. I don't have the cash at this moment to buy 4 new tires. I plan on new tires when I can afford them & 175/ 60's or 165/65 were the 2 sizes I was lookin' at. But I may have enough for wheel spacers. Will that fix the problem??????

it may, but it also may push the tires into the inner fender as well. need pics to see what you need exactly.

K, will get some pics, Thanks. Heres what I could get today, will climb under tomarrow & get some more. Don't think these will help. doesn't look like 1/4" will bring tire out to hit finder.

as you can see(maybe) the top of tire is just barely touching the bottom of the spring perch. Gonna check out Monroe Aspire struts also. Hope they will be easy to swap. Spacers would be so much easier & cheaper for now.

sry the flash killed the picture, i can't see the strut and barely see the tread for that matter.

at any rate, a 5mm spacer should do the trick, BUT, you MUST replace your lug studs for longer ones or install studs and nuts so that you have enough threads holding the wheel.

Yeah that's what I'm talking about, the lower spring perches. On the Aspire rear strut, they are about 5/8" higher (farther from the bottom of the strut) than the Festiva strut, thereby allowing taller/wider tires.

I have Aspire Monroes on my Aspire (well duh) and my Festy. The Aspire has 185/70x13s, the Festy 185/60x14s. No rubbing issues with either car. And it can happen with 13s too; my 13s are actually about 1/8" taller than the 14s, due to taller sidewalls.

Yeah the lower bolts can be a problem, but once you get it done right they will never be a problem again. And those Festy struts will need replacing someday anyway....if nothing else get used Aspire struts from the JY; probably $10. Even if they're crappy, at least you've got the rubbing and lower bolt problems solved until you can afford new struts.
