  • high speed rumble... now tranny doesnt work?

doing some pulls yesterday with a tt 300zx on a highway in mexico and as i was slowing down from around 130mph i felt a rumble like running over the rumble strips, except not quite as loud or extreme. cruised at 60mph till i got home and it did it twice more, only for about a sec each time. went to drive to work this morning and got up to about 60mph an i felt a couple light clunks then all the sudden it was like my clutch was pressed in. i could shift into any gear without using the clutch and the engine just revved like it was in nuetral. i coasted to the side of the road and there is trans fluid leaking from what looks like the diff where the midshaft enters.

    blown dif?

Clutch pedal still feels the same? I'm sorta thinking pressure plate or disc, but the fluid has me wondering. 130, turbo? If it.is the diff, sounds like time for a Quaife diff.

      Mfactory bud.

I don't think quaife makes a diff for us. If They did it would be more than $650.

I know they're not cheap, the turbo Dodge guys end up having to use them.

in your 'for us' statement you may be thinking festiva... he is talking about his Nissan 300zx TT... and there are a bunch of diffs for 300z's..

oh- and since this is not festiva related, should've gone in off topic section for future reference

Jack up the back end (assuming it's a ZX your talking about) put in gear and let out the clutch, get out and look underneath to see if the driveshaft is spinning, if it is then I'd say your diff is blown

my bad. i was in my festiva. the other car was a 300zx.

clutch feels the same. tranny shifts the same... except it used to grind shifting into 1st and 2nd, now even without the clutch it goes in almost perfect.

If you got tranny fluid leaking, start looking for cracks in the casing, that'd be the sure sign you need a new trans
