  • alloy wheels

Ive got 12 inch alloy wheels on a 92 gl. Any ideas on how to clean them up? There are some black spots on them. I don't know what it is. It not a lost of plating and its not pitted or deteriorated, just black spots. Possibly paint loss? Tried a couple of things, none helped. Assume they are factory rims.

Do you have any pics ?
ae they polished ,chrome ,painted, raw finish or clear coated
Most black spots that I have seen is where the clear has a small chip and is left exposed to the enviroment and becomes oxidized and can turn black ,or dark.
What have you tried so far to fix the area and I will try to help you more .

Those can be hard to get off !! combination of road grime , grease ,tire dressing collecting dirt and being baked in by the heat ,cold ,heat transfere that takes place from normal driving
They look like painted alloys ,being that they are not 100%
You can take some SOS pads and scrub in those pockets or take some Castrol Super Clean and some 00 steel wool ,it wont scratch ,then when you get it off use some Mothers ,or Blue Magic polish to help clean the rest of it ,
It's too bad they have those other scratches on the face of them

              wheels

Thanks packrat427, I will try that, should have thought of 00 steel wool myself. Ill pick up some castrol super clean and blue magic. Your advise might help scratches also. Could paint center caps if matching paint could be found.
