  • High RPMs after repair

    I have an 88 Ford Festiva, and I replaced my valve cover gasket and pcv valve yesterday. It used to stall often and after I finished the repairs I took it for a test drive and it was running great until suddenly whenever I am stopped or shifting gears the RPMs jump to 4000. I've tried adjusting the idle screw and other things but nothing seems to work.

    Stuck or tight throttle cable? Maybe some throttle-control electrical thingy not connected?

      I removed the throttle cable and it only went down to 3000RPMs

        vaccum leak at the PCV hose...

          When I had my original cab on my car it would do that occasionally after I worked on it. Never could really explain it but I'll bet if you just mess around with all the linkages and the throttle cable, it will straighten out.

            I'm not conversant with the Festiva carburetor, but according to my Haynes Manual there is an open test connector that should be grounded when setting idle speed. The problems seem too sever to be traced to this alone, but it would good to exclude that as a possible contributing factor.
