  • need help with starter wiring

I got the motor back into the festiva, but need to know the location of a wire near the starter on a 1990 with 5spd. Where the battery cable exits the harness to attach to starter there is a thin black wire with a large round end to attach a bolt to. Does anyone know where this goes, looks too small to be a ground.

Because my post was at 1AM in the garage I probably wasn't very clear on what I'm looking for.

Near the starter there are 3 wires. One thin black wire that clips to a tab on the starter. One thick wire from the NEG battery terminal and another thin black wire with a large eyelet on the end of it. Not thinking I connected this thin black wire with large eyelet to the other terminal on the starter and when I turned the key on it fried the wire. I've traced the wire back up to behind the battery, but am unsure what it does. Does anyone have any input?

I think that grounds in the same place as your neg battery cable. Wait till someone else responds though.

        Probably a Ground

I hooked this wire up to a ground bolt on the transmission and the car will crank ok, so I think that is all it was unless someone else has any input?

Now onto why the car won't start.
