  • Idle issue with wierd fix. >HELP<

Okay Monstiva doesn't like idling when it is first started. It will stall the whole way out of the parking lot. But after she warms up shes fine. Somtimes with a rough idle but I have not had her stall warm yet. A consultation with the Excitable FestYboY led me to believe the idle air control valve may be sticking but that has not been checked.

So with the wierd fix. I was driving with a buddy of mine (not a mechanic but hes familiar with the history of the car sucking oil down the TB) And he started to get annoy that we'd stall several times just trying to leave places. So he chugged the rest of his water bottle and said "i have an idea". At a loss of my own i let him atleast try it.

First he put a screw in the whole of the air duct work where the "curly cue" hose would connect to from the VC and attatched a long hose from the VC.

and fed the larger hose into......his water bottle which is now tucked underneath my break booster.

This temporary fix has worked thus far...no stalling issues. But, this is a temporary fix. So seeing this I was hoping someone on here could tell me what my actual problem is, and the real way to fix it.

So it doesnt feel like im robbing the kettle for help heres my take of it. The valve cover has not been replaced yet since we discovered oil has been able to travel up under the baffle, escaping the curley cue hose. I think it may still need a new valve cover with a baffle. There may also be an issue with too much pressure some where? IDK but thats my idea. Any others?

yes, i was suppose to. but samms step dad claimed he ordered it. then he claimed it was up at tom's. and even though he goes to toms about 4 times a day he never picked it up. about a week after he said it showed up i asked if he got it yet and he claimed tom sent it back because he never got it. shady business right here. in other words, i dont think it ever exist

so is there any takers on why the "catch can" solved my stalling issue? and what the real fix would/should be

            pcv

Sounds like the pcv valve is clogged, thus effecting idle and might explain pressure in valve cover? I dunno just a thought

Pull the Valve cover off & look at the Baffle that is attacehd to the top of the Valve cover. Pull the small phillips head screws out & clean the sludge. Then reapply sealant & screw it back together.(It has to be sealed well) The baffle is a MAZE that is suppossed to stop the oil but let air pass by. But when it sludges,it allows the motor to pull oil right up the hose. I'm thinking yours might be packed

ive already had it off and cleaned it. it actually wasnt too bad. there is a picture of it in my build thread. didnt use sealant to put it back on though mainly because there wasn't any sealant on it when i took it off :/

That might the problem my friend. Its sealed from the factory. Its worth a try and wont cost but a tube of sealant.

                        air flow backwards

Sorry, but the more I think about this problem the more I think pcv or related to that. The flow of air should be the other way. If you have air/oil flowing into a bottle then you have toooo much crankcase pressure. The pvc ciurcut pulls air from the plenum before the t/b thru the small hose that you plugged off thru the valve cover and related baffle thru the pcv to the intake below the t/b and into the engine to be burned. Crancase pressure is controled by the pcv valve. There could be an underlying problem like more than normal blowby caused by bad oil control ring.

Do you have good vacuum at the pcv? It should be strong as it is intake vacuum. Maybe the rubber hose or pasage in the intake is clogged.

Another way to check it would be to remove the oil fill cap and put palm of your hand over the hole. If everything is working properly you will have a vacuum and actually pull your hand slightly.

Hope your able to get this worked out

Yes thats basically it.Your obviously mechanically inclined,so I doubt you'll mess it up.Just dont use to much, cut the hole on the sealant tube fairly small. So you can get a nice thin bead.

Yelo-thats what this baffle is for. The PVC circuit.

Liking the thread so far. Did you find the fix other than the bottle. Uncle fester is having a very similar problem with idling like crap (idle coming down very low and rough, hasn't stalled yet but haven't given it the opportunity yet by keeping foot in the gas), until it gets warm. Then for the most part it's good. I also have a slight hesitation at wot though which you don't seem to have. I'm probably going to start looking into my issue tonight but keep me posted on how you make out!
