  • BP Festy Timing Belt Change ??ss

The BP in my Festy is leaking oil at the front crank seal area. Will a BP drop low enough to remove the crank pulley or will the engine have to be pulled to do this. I took a week off in the near future in case I have to pull the engine. Might just go ahead and pull it and replace all seals and clean the crap out of it.

I would just pull it it's allot easier to work on that way.

it depends on which crank pulley and how your engine mounts are built.

im using a shaved miata aluminum pulley with only the v-belt section left so its easy to get off and on top of that my engine sits about 2" lower than most peoples since i dont have a trans crossmember.

if you have a pulley that still has the ribbed chunk as well as the v-belt (the 96+ BP's only had the ribbed and not the V, these would work as well for easy removal) it will be pretty tricky since you wont be able to drop it far before you hit the frame rail.

Thanks for the excellent answer Ideal, I'm gonna try to take it off in the car, if it hits the frame like you said, I have 9 days off to remove the engine.
