  • Staring problems

I just set the cam timing on a 92 Festiva. The problem I have is that the car starts but will not stay running. I set the cam timing retarded one tooth on the camshaft, then I advanced it one tooth and still the same. I checked the fuel supply, when the key turned to the run position there is no fuel coming out of the fuel filter, it only pumps when the motor is turning over. Sometimes the engine will run if you keep pumping the gas peddle, but it is like the engine is being starved for fuel. The question I have is where is the fuel relay is located or where or what color are the wires are for the fuel pump as i plan to jump out the fuel relay.

    Thanks

1st off the fuel pump will only pump when the car is cranking or running. Is your MAF electrical plug plugged in? Also make sure that the intake tube is connected. All this must be connected to run or it will start and immediately stall.

I had the weird problem on the 91 when one of the plug wires got loose it wouldn't start.. or stay started when cold. Ought to get a fuel pressure tester that might be a good start.
