  • Sunpro Tach Help Please

I just installed a Sunpro tach that I found in my trunk from the previous owner. It did not come with instructions but I've installed Monster Tachs before and they always had pigtails to cut depending on number of cylinders. The Sunpro tach doesn't have these pigtails. The tach works, however, it seems like it only reads about 1/2 of the actual rpms. I used the yellow/green wire as a tach signal on the ignition coil connector because the wiring diagram shows that it is the negative side of the coil. What did I do wrong with this install? Is there another yellow/green tach signal I should use?

Look for a 3 position sliding switch, with a square black knob. It will be recessed, so you put something like an ink pen cap in it to move the switch. The 3 positions are 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder, 8 cylinder.

Thanks for the help guys, I went outside and unscrewed the tach from the mount and sure enough, on the back of the tach was the cylinder selection switch. It was set on 8 so I turned it to 4 cylinder setting, now she works properly.
