  • Aspire Rear Defrost question

I have a 95 Aspire that didn't have a factory rear window defroster installed.

I was able to pick up a rear hatch of the same color from a car that did have it installed, as well as the factory dash switch from a salvage yard for a pretty good price. I got the wiring all connected, and when I push the dash button the indicator light in the instrument panel comes on. But, the rear defrost isn't working.

I checked the fuse, that appears to be working correctly.

In looking at the 95 Ford Aspire factory service manual, I see mention of a "Heated Back Window Relay" (Page 18-01-9 if you're reading along) that appears, from the diagram, to be located behind the rear passenger side service panel (where the rear washer fluid container would be if it had a rear wiper).

I took the panel off but didn't see a relay there. Nor did I see a place where one would attach to the car. There are, however, two empty wiring jacks there (one 4 wire and one 3 wire). Is the relay supposed to attach to one (or both) of these jacks?

If so, anybody happen to have one from a parts car they're not using?
