  • randomly died now its running fine.

i hate problems like this.... so hard to diagnose when they randomly show up lol.

yesterday i was driving, threw the car in nuetral as i was slowing down, and it shut off. never done that before in all its history.

this morning im driving for about 5 minutes. roll through a stopsign and then when i hit the accelerator it bogs hard. i let off, it idles fine but as soon as i hit the gas it tries to die instantly. i coast to the side of the road. pop the hood.

everything looks normal... seemed like a maf problem to me so i pushed the connector harness to make sure it was on tight. seemed to be in place.

i started the car and everything is normal.... runs great drives great...

so i guess its only a matter of time till it happens again. maybe wiggling temporarily fixed it? maybe shutting the car off and starting it again fixed it?

i know mafs go bad and will act like that, but im not very familiar with vafs and how reliable they are, or what the symptoms of them going bad are.

From your info it does sound as though it was a corroded or loose connection somewhere along the VAF circuit.

A couple months ago I had almost all my lights go out and when they came back on they would go off again some. I got out and fiddled with the headlight fuse and they worked okay. The next day I took out all the main fuses (converted from the links) and after I cleaned some corrosion off them I've had no more problems.

i almost forgot this happened.... untill last night.

i was cruising and went around a corner and started to accelerate up a hill.... it just bogged. i was close to home so i limped it home. it would run ok at low rpms with about 2% throttle, but anything more than just a tiny bit throttle and it would start bucking and sputtering... 1/4 throttle or more completely bogged it.

i almost made it to my house and the CEL came on... when i got to my house i stopped to back into my spot and the car died (wasnt idling) i started it again and it died again. started it again and then it ran perfect.... revs fine, no CEL, like nothing ever happened....

Spray some wd40 into the connection and clean it up. Remember the fuel pump is run off one of those pins...

seemed like a fuel pump issue til you said you wiggled the connector. I agree with festyboy and bhazard on cleaning the pins and making sure none are bent sideways or something.

ok i would also agree but this most recent time i did nothing other than shut the car off and start it again and it was fixed. i didnt hit a bump or anything that could jar the connection...

idk man. will probably keep you busy til you find it. loose wire / loose connector / pin etc or bad ground or some corrosion somewhere in that circuit.

not to mention this is a BP+T correct?

When this happens, have you tried to turn the ignition key to "off" then back to "on"? We've been having a similar issue with a BP swap and if we go the key on/off it picks right back up. We've replaced the tumbler and switch but it still does what you describe.

so it could be in the ignition. advancedynamix was messing with his ignition at FMV trying to figure out why some things were or were not working right on ACC and ON, etc. maybe that's a good path to go down.

do the screws on the backside ever loosen up? doesn't seem plausible but who knows!

X2, the exact thing happened to me last week. It was loose at first and when I removed it to check, the whole connector was totally off. Right before then it would idle for 3 seconds and keep dying.
