  • Cleaned engine and now charge light is on

I cleaned a bunch of oil off my engine and engine compartment with engine degreaser and used a light spray of water to wash off excess. Now my charging light comes on, but with the DVOM across terminals, it reads 14.25+ volts so that means its charging. Could the water just be causing the light to come on til it dries out?

Pull your fusible links and check for water. Make sure they are dry and clean. Trust me on this one.

It might go back to normal in a few hours.

In addition to pulling the fuses I'd hi them with a quick white lithium spray grease too to help with corrosion

When I put the dielectric grease in it caused a bunch of dirt to get embedded in the fuse legs. I sprayed them clean and fusible link blocks with brake cleaner. I hope you're right, cause this only happened after the engine cleaning. Thanks Batstiva, I hope you saved me $100. Its now only reading 12.23 volts at idle and barely going to 12.50 revved up to 3000 rpms.

Check engine light came on for me when the oxygen sensor accidently came loose.

              Check your alternator connection

Batstiva, you were right, after a long drive and cool down around lunch time today, the charge light went out and stayed out. I guess the heat under the hood dried everything out. So glad I don't have to buy an alternator.

my charge light flickered today but went back out quickly. I'll have to pull the fuses and blow some compressed air in everything there and see what it does.

if you want the grease in there just put a dab in the link and then push it on so it doesn't go everywhere
