  • A/C kicks on, but not cold

    Hey guys
My new festiva 90l 5 speed
Has A/C and when I hit the button the compressor will kick on. It should have pressure then (I opened a valve for 0.1 second and it does have pressure) then why is warm air coming from the vents?
If it kicks on then it should have pressure correct?
I am no wiz with A/C systems
    thanks!

pressure and SUFFICIENT pressure are two different things. Just because the compressor turns on doesn't mean you have the correct amount of refrigerant. Low refrigerant charge will allow the compressor to turn on, but you will not have proper, if any, cooling. Charge can only be determined by one of two methods; recovering and weighing the amount of refrigerant in the system, or, using the Superheating/Supercooling method. That involves accurate pressure gages and temp probes on the condensor and evaporator.

You probably have enough pressure to turn the compressor on but don't have enough of a charge to have any cooling. Just take it to a shop and have them recover and recharge since they will most likely add dye so you can find a leak. Most places won't charge you again for lost freon once you/they find the leak.

should probably also check your frion (spelling?). r134. McParts stores sell this nifty hand held thing with a red light, yellow light, and green light that checks your frion (spelling?) levels. Im sure you could guess what the lights would represent hehe. seriously, i own it and it saved me from alot of hot days in my escape.
