  • Wiper motor is dead, how hard is it to replace?

I've never replaced a wiper motor before, is it pretty easy or do we have to time the arms to the motor? The motor in my Aspire locked up in the full up position on Sunday. Any tips to make it painless and easy?

The only hard part is making sure your gears are lined up correctly.

I removed mine for paint, then re-installed it and my wiper arm and hit the switch and the arm went down then half way up lol!

I first thought it was a wiper arm adjustment but it not if it goes down first, so it has to be something with the motor gear lining up with the Rod behind the cowl.

Maybe there's a specific mark that I didn't see? Idk..

Dang, it ain't the motor, its the mount that the passenger wiper arm is attached to, the welds that keep it secured broke so it just flops everywhere. There does not seem to be any room to fix this prob. The grill under the windshield is welded on so I don't know how I'll be able to remove it.

My drivers side wiper mount body metal rusted through down under the outer cowl and the wiper was flopping around, unattached to anything. There was no way to get in there to deal with it. I ended up cutting a 5" x 5" hole in the firewall in that general area so I could get to rusted spot and fix it, used a dremel.

It all can be removed through the plate that holds the wiper motor. Remove the nuts under the wiper arms, remove the covers, push the assembly through the grill you mentioned, remove the motor and plate. Pull the assembly out.

Thank you for this tip, I had to drill two holes into the mount on each side of the passenger side wiper arm into the engine bay and used two bolts and nuts to secure the mount from flopping. Now all is working great.
