Auto Transmission Linkage/Oil Leak

I've been looking into a Festiva Auto GL '93, but the car won't get into drive without having to initially shift into second. Is this a relatively easy fix? Also, the car has a decent oil leak of about a pint a week. At first glance, it was tough to determine the source.

From a pretty green car guy here, would it be worth taking on this possible headache due to the vehicle's decent exterior? It has less than 150,000 on the engine too. I'm not in the market for anything but something that reliably takes me to and from work. Any thoughts would help me out. The bus is killing me!
