  • Stupid Crossmember bolts!!!!

What the heck do you do when the nut comes undone on the inside of the frame rail? Any good fixes?

Need a little more info. Did the head break off or did it break in the middle?

There has got to be a better way than this: If you can't get to the inside of the frame to put a vice grip on the nut, you have to cut around it and weld it or another one on before reassembly. Sucks

The nut that is welded up in the front frame for the crossmember came loose so now it just spins and never gets any looser.

Another sorry way to deal with it is cut the head of the bolt off. Get another similar nut and bolt and weld the nut to the end of a piece of steel strap. Feed it through a hole in the frame until it appears over the original hole and install bolt. You can also weld the bolt to the strap and feed it to the hole like a stud. The strap keeps it from spinning.

I usually cut a window into the frame then weld or screw a cover back onto it after I secure a new nut... most of the time the bottom of the radiator supports are rotted here in NY so its actually a repair lol.

If the bolt is broke off and the nut is still attached to the frame that would be the solution. But that is not the case here.

the nut in mine is gone. the bolt goes up through the beam with plenty of play. well, I had to take a bolt cuz that one was gone. my aspire sway bar is holding up the cross member quite well now! but I like having most everything in place.

wasn't there someone that had both bolts missing and the engine just sat on the sway bar for like 30k miles?
