Removing downpipe is extremely easy unless all the nuts are seized badly.

As for manuals being wrong, Haynes says you have to pull the pass side axle to remove the alt on an MX6 :p Yeah right, I pull the alt out everytime I wash the engine bay, and never even jacked the car up to do it. Just take the AC line bracket loose and it comes right out the top
