I'm going to flip one of the hooks on a gear puller so it points out. I'm going to use that on one side while I pry on the other. Once I get the CV out, I'm going to make a cradle for the trans to hold it steady and level while I raise/lower the engine to mate with it.

Had a good day today. Clamped a gear puller to the cup then hose-clamped a slide puller to the puller head and got both the evil cups off. Then I made a cradle for the trans to hold it still and successfully did a practice stab. Then I installed the clutch using a deep 10mm that someone recommended to align the plate. Several attempts to join the 2 components were unsuccessful. I noticed that the trans and engine weren't aligned anymore. I removed the rear wood shim from the cradle so the trans could "rock" a little for a fine adjustment. It went in. Yippee!
