  • Any other hubs fit our Festivas?

When I got my Festiva checked out (finally), he gave me a laundry list of repairs that I need.

    First on the list:

PO stripped both rear wheel hubs. Made bolts a bit bigger fit in the holes because he was too cheap to buy a replacement. :bs:

Do any other cars have the same hubs as ours, or do I need to specifically find a Festiva in a yard? I think nearest to me is about 75mi away.

    ~Spike

P.S.: It's finally running, titled, insured, and plated! Engine sounds great for having 183K miles on it, and it fires right up turn-key.

Hmm... would it be very costly to do this? I won't be doing my own work, and will be paying a mechanic.. I don't want to run up too much of a bill, I have very, very limited 'extra' income.

With all the Aspire swaps on this site, Festy susp parts should be a dime a dozen.

if you are paying to do the work then just replace the drums if the wheel bolts are stripped.

New drums are cheap. I got a pair for $44 on eBay with free S/H, but you can probably even do a bit better at your local parts house.

I don't know if there's enough room for the "heads" inside the drums, past the springs, etc., but I would seriously think about installing regular style wheel studs.

Being the P.O. drilled the holes out already you can't hardly hurt the drums any more than they are by drilling a bit bigger if needed.

              Just my 2¢.

I'm praying I can get this done, as I would much prefer regular studs over bolts. Will be giving a call Monday to a local shop that repaired a broken stud on our Maxima.

Otherwise, I don't really think I want to mess with Aspire stuff just yet, I don't even know what a Festiva normally feels like. The drums on eBay don't include hubs, I don't think?

Sigh. Starting to figure a car is $250 for a reason.

The drum is the hub, the wheels bolt to the drums. The wheel bearings go inside the drums and it slips over the spindle. Put the nut on the spindle and it holds it on while rotating on the spindle.

If you buy new drums, you'll need wheel bearings, and new lug bolts are cheaper than wheel stud kits..fyi

If your not doing the work yourself, why would it matter if you have studs or bolts anyway? :p

I may have 8 extra lug bolts laying around for cheap if someone can confirm aspire lugs are the same as festys, i don't know why they would be different.

The original posting states that the bolts holes were made larger by the P.O. hence, stock bolts will NOT work.

It is still my opinion that IF there is enough room for the heads of regular press-in/hammer-in wheel studs that it would be the easiest and most economical route to take.

By simply looking through a Dorman wheel fastener parts catalog at a non Mcparts store should turn up a valid alternative. (If you can find a Mcparts store that ACTUALLY is willing to take out a paper parts reference catalog and look thru the pages, you are then blessed.)

This is all still dependent around the fact IF there is enough room for the head of the conventional wheel stud inside of the drum/ past the brake hardware.

                    Just my 2¢.

EDIT: This May be a good alternative to new drums.....

Lol, the cost of a shop doing custom work turning old drums and drilling/tapping the new oversized holes which may require the the holes in the rims to be reamed out is going to be thru the roof, let alone the saftey factor of deviating from the 'manufacturers' way of doing it, i'm not sure but that could cause early failure of the drum.. not that i really care that much about manufacturers designs, i'm just saying..

Personally I'd rather spend the money to do it right instead of taking chances...might even be cheaper than paying a mechanic to do that custom work to the existing drums.

Thats a good price on the studs tho, I might have to get some myself, i looked on ebay and only seen them for 50$+, must have been some chrome plated stuff or something.
