It's that time of the year again when it gets cold and the IAC is starting to act up, such as, when you first start the engine it idles up to 2000rpm as it warms up it comes down to 1000rpm, but does not come down to 800rpm as it has in the past, i know it's working as it should but why not come down to 800rpm as it does in the summer, can it be taked off and cleaned internally, i did a search but didn't find anything satisfying. Any thoughts-comments. Thanks

Yes, you can take it off and clean it. I would try some Seafoam in a spray can first. Spray it through the IAC inlet.Brian

Thanks for the info, will it hurt to submerse the IAC in a cup of seefoam, seefoam at our local hardware store is $5.99 and ya i would keep the electric portion out of the fluid. An idea can turn to dust or magic, depending on the talent that rubs against it.

Shouldn't be a problem. I would try spraying it out without removing it first, just to save some labor. You should be able to do it while it's running so that it gets sucked into the IAC. But, if you take it off and clean it all out that would certainly be best. I cleaned mine all out a couple years ago, but I don't remember what was involved, since I took the whole TB off and cleaned everything. I remember taking the screw out of the top that is under the "tamperproof" plug and spraying it out. I had to mess with it to get everything re-adjusted, but when I got done it idled smooth as glass.Last edited by blkfordsedan; 10-20-2011, 01:46 PM.Brian

I have sort of the same problem, high idle, but it also smells like it's running rich. Since I've had it just since May, is this normal?
I was told to pull the rubber plug off the top to dial the idle down, as opposed to removing the throttle body and adjusting the throttle stop. is this right or wrong?

my car is a GL with 160k on the clock. it was smelling gassy so i did the VAF trick, took the plastic top loose from the top of the vaf, advanced the gear four teeth, no more gassy smell, no performance gain, but no more smell either.
Thanks blkfordsedan, i will give it a try when we get home from The Fall Ohiostiva. In the mean time i'm going to run a couple cans of Seefoam through the tank on the way there. Our local hardware store is having a sale on Seefoam, $5.99 per can.Last edited by sc72; 10-20-2011, 08:03 PM.An idea can turn to dust or magic, depending on the talent that rubs against it.
