  • Charge Light on - alternator tested and good?

I started up my festiva the other morning - 93L and the charge light came on on the dash cluster. I turned the car off and then started it back up and it went off. Well, now the light is remaining on. I took the alternator off and had it tested and they said it was working just fine.

Note: The lights on the dash kind of pulse when the car is idling but they are steady when the engine is not running.

I have replaced the belt and confirmed everything is hooked up properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

still need to make sure the belt is tight enough.....could be slipping. I would take the alternator to a different place and not mention you already had it tested and see if it test good again. Sounds like it is failing under load situations.

Replace your fusible links with the cartridge type fuses. They may be corroded and could cause a false alternator light to come on.

The Fusible links? I'm not questioning this but how could this cause a false light to come on?

FeistyFesti you are a good person you know that. I went out and checked the links and cleaned the connections and it now works perfect! Thanks

If you have a volt meter you can confirm by reading the voltage across the battery terminals while the engine is idling.

Thanks Michael, the same thing happened to me a few months back when I washed and degreased my engine. I guess I got some water in my fusible links and they were severely corroded so I replaced them with the fuses and bam, no more charge light. So glad you fixed your problem!
