  • Stray wire

I noticed this stray wire. 1989 L Plus Auto. If someone else with and 89 auto could help ? Its anchored to the bracket that holds the coil and runs into a connector that has one black wire coming out of it.

    And whats this ?

Looking at my '89 wiring manual the only black wire on the ignition diagram is spliced to the wire that comes from the + side of the coil and goes to the dist.

It doesnt connect to the coil but is teed into the harness near the coil. Its held in a wire tie on the coil bracket.

My radiator fan stays on and my check engine light flashes on and back off occasionally. Other than that it runs great.

Could that be the wire to diagnose the engine? Ex. ground that wire and the check engine light flashes to tell you the code.

I know there are some test plugs in the area but this wire is coming from a connection. On the harness side of the connection is a heavier gauge black wire with a white tracer. The loose end on the other side of the connector is a smaller gauge solid black wire. Looks like it belongs somewhere. There are some hieroglyphics on the harness side of the connector.

Try cleaning the fan switch connection to fix that problem. An open circuit there causes it to run constantly.

The black connector is the sensor for your master cylinder reservoir!

Note the clips at the end of it, they will lock it into the slot in the slide of the reservoir.
Not sure if it fits both sides or is keyed to a specific side.
