I am changing the t stat because the heat takes a while to come up. I got the autozone dual stage one. Question:
Does the weep hole go to the top or the smaller dual port( with spring)?

Not sure if the Festiva has an odd thermostat or not.
But normally the spring goes in the head.

YEs, I have the right one.
        Clockwise.
Does the smaller spring opening go at 12 O clock or does the weep hole go at 12 O clock?

Every thermostat I've encountered had a small arrow etched near the edge to point up.

I also remember a little hole with a captured pin in it that jingled around if you shook it. That ended up at the top too.

Ok, that is what was thinking.

It also got me to thinking..
What if it was a SB Chevy. Being a horizontal mounting?

Still always with bleed hole @ 12 oclock. It allows the air to bleed out.Preventing a situation where the capillary bulb isn't submerged in glycol. But rather sitting in an air pocket.Which starts expanding due to extreme heat.Sometimes the thermostate doesnt open before the hose/clamps fail. And can actually expand the upper rad hose like a balloon. This I know from experience.:eeeeeek:

A "horizontal" mounted thermostat isn't always truly horizontal. It will usually be on an angle to the horizon. Place it with the hole at the highest position.

Air will always seek the highest point.
