  • E Brake question

I just replaced my emergency brake/parking brake cable and cleaned and lubed all the linkage and moving parts.
Everything is working except that I noticed when I pull up on the lever the brake's don't "lock up", they set and will hold the car but not sure how well they would hold on a hill.
I adjusted the adjuster on the lever but it's screwed all the way in and still not locking the brakes all the way.
After reading through the Haynes manual, I don't see any info on how the self adjuster's, self adjust.
I had to release the self adjuster's all the way when I installed the new cable and thought they would 'self adjust' with normal driving.
Could that be the problem, that they haven't adjusted?

The self adjusters should be set when reinstalling the hubs the shoes should be almost be touching . The (self adjusters) if not completely clean wont work properly I think there's a little spot in the back the you can adjust them with out pulling the drum again.

I've always been told the adjusters only do their job when stopping in reverse. After every brake job, my dad would make me sick backing up and stopping over and over.
