  • 1988 wont start??? HELP!!

My dad has a 1988 with 294,000 miles on it! the other day it just quit while he was driving down the road. After a few checks, NO SPARK! Added a new coil and distributor and checked every were for power. He has power going into the coil but no spark coming out??

Does anyone have any ideas, or have you had this problem before??

    Thanks
    Lee

A good way to diagnose ignition problems is with the Haynes Festiva manual and a volt meter although any auto repair manual from the public library should do instead of the Haynes manual as ignitons are pretty generic.

You said you replaced the distributor. I've never seen a new distributor come with a new wire from the module to coil. If you reused the old wire, be sure you connected the wires to the module properly and to the correct sides of the coil. Also check the wire where it comes out of the distributor. It usually has a very sharp bend there and with an old wire the insulation can crack and cause a short to ground where the wire passes through the distributor housing.
                  You gonna race that thing?
