  • Water in headlamp

The drivers side headlamp has an accumilation of moisture in it. It beads up on the inside of the lens and diffuses the lamp beam.

It happened before......after I powerwashed the engine, so I thought........so I removed the headlamp, dried it and replaced, but now it`s back. How is the water getting in there? Or is it condensation build up over time? Either way, I`d like to get it sealed to eliminate the problem. Re and re the headlamp over and over is a PITA.

    Anybody else have this problem?

it's the seal between the lamp mount and the "o" ring on the bulb. need to clean it up and add a little vasilene or preferably dielectric grease.

Every light fixture is different. Scratches, stone chips, bum seals. The joint between the glass and metal is typically where I look closely but as usual I rarely find anything even though the light fogs up every time after rain or snow. You can scrape out that joint and reseal it with masking tape borders and tube silicone but nothing seems to work in the long run except to start scouting for another lamp. Or you can do like me and pull the bulb partially out on dry days in order to dry out the insides. Postpones the inevitable for quite awhile.

Or if it really bothers you, buy a new set of bulbs and use the seal off one of them till the bulb dies and then use the unused bulb.

Could it be that you are never completely drying out the inside of the headlamp? And that the moisture left inside shows up the next time the temperature drops?

I've read that if you rinse out the headlamp with alcohol, drain it, and allow it to completely air dry you can get rid of the water. I would think the higher the concentration of alcohol, and the more of it you use, the better the results.
