  • need help on my distributor

    good day!

the rotor of my distributor is not pointing on the #1 when i put it to TDC..maybe that's why the car has no power when accelarating..it's like im pulling heavy of loads.. anyone here knows how to rebuild or repair the distributor?i have a kia pride,i think festiva in kia pride has the same distributor?

    If not they are similar.
First, TDC of the fire stroke or the exhaust stroke ??

You might have a plugged exhaust..
pull the upstream o2 and see if a lot of pressure comes out
while running. With a gauge plugged in it should not go over
4 PSI while running it. OR drop the header pipe of the exhaust
and see if it runs better and louder.

#1 and # 2 pistons are on top..i think the culprit is in the distributor bcoz you cannot adjust it anymore the timing to retard..it is more like advanced..when you adjust the timing of the ignition it is the retard to the firewall and the advance to the front?any idea?

#1 cannot be at the top if #2 is...
Pull #1 spark plug and stick your finger
in the spark plug hole, seal it. If you have tiny
fingers do not stick them clear through the hole.
Bar the engine in direction of rotation by hand.
Stop when finger is blown from hole or a lot of
air leaks by. Bar the engine to TDC, this will be
TDC, firing stroke. If the engine still runs the rotor
will be pointing close to #1.
Things to check with your hunch..
Check the timing belt marks and make sure
they line up, it could have skipped a tooth.
Make sure nothing came loose in the distributor.
While the engine is at TDC#1, make sure piston is really
at TDC, stick a long screwdriver or equivalent through
the plug hole, using bar, rock engine back and forth,
screwdriver should go back and forth over the top. center it
at exactly the top, and the timing mark for ignition TDC should
        be aligned.

Doi_Doi, it might be possible for you to have your dizzy 180* off. Some of the distributors (I'm recalling from memory, so anyone, please chime in) have a design that allows you to install the rotor the wrong way. That would definitely cause problems like that. Also, you're right about the timing. Advance is forward. That's all the info I can offer. Good luck.

The rotor spins forward so you rotate the cap rearward to advance the timing.

good to hear from you guys..
ive been thinking of overhauling the distributor b'coz it's not pointing on the #1 in the distributor cap..the rotor has only 1 position..you cannot rotate it..and also the drive shaft of it cannot be rotate it's also b'coz only 1 position if you install it..is it possible to rotate the drive shaft when you overhaul it?

Align your cam gear mark at the timing belt, then check where the rotor points.
The changes that can be made in the distributor would prevent your car from running at all, Yours still runs, the cam has to be off one tooth given what you have said.
