  • Festy will slowly not let the RPMs get high

I have just purchased my first Festiva a 92, 5 speed I will start it up and it will run just fine for about 10 min or so, and after about 10 min it will slowly not let the RPMs increase without the engine feeling like its bogging down if i continue to drive it while this condition is happening the check engine light will come on, but if i shut it down and start it back up it immediately works fine for about another 10 minutes until it happens again. Anybody got any thoughts or ideas ideas what this could be?
    * Also the temperature gauge in the gauge cluster wont display any temperature.

Check fuel pressure, could be something simple like a fuel filter going bad, always look at the simple things first, and we need to see some pic's of your new ride.
An idea can turn to dust or magic, depending on the talent that rubs against it.

Your temp gauge is most likely your sensor. As for the mechanical problem that's pretty strange. So it WILL rev, just seems like it's bogging? Or It will only rev to a certain RPM, and then bog?

But when it's cold it revs as high as you want? Because if it did it all the time I'd say maybe timing is off but if it only does it after that "ten minute" mark I'd suggest a FP test as sc72 has already suggested.

Honestly a basic cap rotor and plug job should be taken in to consideration also.

Muck will build up around the filter while running
it will plug up and restrict fuel.
when you shut it off there is no pressure to hold
it there so the muck will settle and you can start
the process over again. A new filter should solve
                  it for now.

There may be more stuff in the tank...including
some fuel pump that just took a bad beating.

OK so I changed out everything and then it wouldn't start so i put back on all the original components and still no start. Ive narrowed it down to the ignition module which should be in by 3 o'clock today hopefully it fixes the problem. I doubt the the ignition module is going to fix the RMP issue but it should at least get her started.

I also changed the tranny oil, good thing I did cause I dropped the drain plug and only about 12oz came out, the oil level didn't even register on the dip stick/speedometer gear.

Are you absolutely positive you put the new plug wires on exactly where the old ones went? Another possibility is that you put the rotor on wrong. Make sure the motor is at TDC on #1 piston; the rotor should point to the #1 plug (the one closest to the timing belt).

Good catch on the tranny fluid. Sounds like a fluid leak somewhere. Did you use Mercon III?

yes the wires were put on back on correctly i double triple checked with the manual, there was nothing coming out the ignition manual. I used Synchromesh Manual Transmission Fluid.
