  • A/C compressor

So right at the end of the summer my AC compressor locked up. I haven't messed with because obviously I haven't needed to just let it go. But spring will be coming and I am wondering how hard of a fix it is. I don't know a whole lot about A/C systems. Is it something I'll have to take into the shop or just let the 134 out and unbolt the old one and bolt a new one on then refill?

There may not be much 134 left in it. With the pressure off you can bolt
on a new one. If the compressor seized it would be a good idea to get
a receiver dryer and a flush kit. Unbolt the dryer and blow the flush kit
through with compress air. That should clean out any metal that may
have been scattered into the system when the compressor seized.install
the new compressor and follow directions with the compressor about oil.
Install the dryer with a little of the same special compressor oil, use it on
the oring connections too. When done you can take it in to be evacuated.
At that point you or the shop can charge the system.
