I was thinking of that ball joint that pulled out of

If that recal was in 1996, then the problem was corrected long ago. Not likely that many people on the forum still have those LCAs installed anymore. But it might still be true for some car we just bought and haven't replaced those yet.

Sounds like the tipoff right off the bat is that they won't fit into the frame. Look for alterations at that end.
